ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by Richmond VA Realtor Shannon MilliganI have been enjoying watching the ALS Ice Bucket Challenges that have been flooding my Facebook feed. I think it is a wonderful way to raise awareness for a lesser known disease and a fantastic fundraiser. Although I don't know the statistics, I do know millions upon millions have been donated due to this fun, simple challenge! 

My Great Aunt passed away from ALS many years ago. We were not close and at the time the only thing I knew about ALS was that the toll it took was very difficult for her family to watch. It is like someone just gets lost inside of their own body.

As I was enjoying these videos, I was secretly hoping I would get out of this little phenomenon. However, my friend Robin decided to nominate me and I thought I might as well go big or go home! So what did I do? Well, take a look at the video below and find out!

Now that you have seen my little video, it is my hope that you will share it. I firmly believe in running my Richmond VA real estate business, the RVA Home Team with Jefferson Properties, from a place of contribution! I would love nothing more than to write that large check out to the ALS Association once this luxury estate home, located at 3423 Lake View Road Mechanicsville, is SOLD!

In the meantime, I will be drying off and heading over the the ALS website now to make a donation today!

Joan - I am donating to ALS anyway, but will be able to donate more when this home closes! I love what Charlie Sheen did. 

Will - I actually had planned for all of the broker's at the open throw water on me, but they had all left by the end!

Nick - It was freezing! I had put the pitcher in the fridge...not sure WHY I did that, lol!

Anita - Thank you! As I mentioned, I will be making a donation anyway, this is just another way that I can give back.

Michelle Gibson - Thank you! Someone made a comment on my Facebook about self promotion and I hate that. Sure, there is some of that and I am trying to come from contribution just as when you buy a pair of Toms shoes, they give a pair to needy kids. Or Yoplait Yogurt making a donation to breast cancer awareness when you buy their product and turn in the lids. I am not asking people to buy the house so I can make a doantion, I am telling people I WILL make a donation when the right person buys the home and we close.

Shannon, I'm sure your client was thrilled with your promotion of their house and they are the ones who really matter. Besides, others are looking at that and saying, that's the type of agent I want to hire; someone who talks about my listing at every opportunity. After all, that is our business and that business gives us the ability to abundantly share with others who are in need. Great way to promote your business, your listing and ALS awareness. BRAVO!!

Debb - Thank you! It was freezing as I wasn't thinking and had put the pitcher in the fridge during my broker's open, lol!

Larry - It was very cold! But it was for a good cause. The idea was to have all thr agents throw the water on me, but since I couldn't do it until the end of the open, no one was left but someone to film me, lol!

Patricia - I just read about $42 MILLION raised versus like $2 million at the same time last year. AMAZING!
