Passion!

pouring red wineFirst, the pour...

Take the glass, tilting it slightly, and hold it up to the light. Look at the clarity; the lack of any, even the finest suspended particle. As you bring it back to center, watch the legs. The fine, left-over, semi-transparent runnings back down the inside of the glass. The longer the legs, the more volume, the higher the sugar content. Now, bring the glass to you, and inhale the fragrance. Earthy? Fruity? Subtleties of Rose? What essences does the bouquet offer? Next, a slight swirl, and then the first taste... on the tip of the tongue, bitterness, slightly acidic; a little more rolled around on the tongue, moved around in the mouth, experienced by the various distinguishing taste-buds... Swallow...

Allow it to breathe, another swirl. Allow air to remove some of the tannins; the acidity first experienced, and allow the underlying nuances to come forth. Mellow? Smoky? Almond? Cherry? Chocolaty? What is brought forth?

A fine Red changes in depth as it is experienced. Each part of the mouth , as one becomes accustomed to the experience, may pick up several undertones, and each bottle corked over one's lifetime can bring a heightened awareness if allowed. The recognition comes from experience...

I find that I can equate the experiences in my life to a fine Red. Each has the power to evoke passion, should I choose to look. The more passionately I plunge into life; into the experiences I encounter, the more depth and appreciation I am able to grasp. Each new experience, whether it be a corkage, or whether it be an endeavor, I choose whether to tread into it with trepidation, or whether I pursue it with enthusiasm and passion.

I challenge you to experience your world with passion. Find the depth and lushness of the world around you, and live life to it's fullest!

The words Passion and Seredipity are two of my favorites and while this one was about Passion it evoked the Seredipity! Thanks for posting!

~  Eugene, Thanks! I do love my wine!

~  Bill, I've found that a good wine can go with almost any activity!

~  Jon, thanks for the compliment... I've found that when enjoyment is present, things flow easily!

~  Liz... I do enjoy my White as well, over the past year, I've moved more towards Pinot over the buttery Chard, but I prefer my Whites on warm, late Spring evenings by the pool or in the garden.

~  Bob and Carolin, Thanks! It does make for a pleasurable experience.

~  Ryan... Funny! Thanks! I've been known to introduce a few people to the pleasures of wine in my time.

~  Doug... Thanks!

~  Debbie, Thanks for sharing the info. I haven't explored the site well enough to know about the group, but I will be joining this one before the night's over!

~  Don, Thanks for your comments! I love to share great wine, but I couldn't give it away; I have much difficulty keeping my rack stocked already! LOL

~  Misty, Thank you! That is an interesting point. Thank you, again... I'm glad you enjoyed.

Hi Marchel! This is true. I try hard to cherish every day God grants me, and not let one slip by without being thankful. The quality of what the day brings is only as great as the acknowledgement of that quality.

Bo, glad you posted in wine lovers too. We have lots of small wineries in my area and I love to stop in when we're out and about. We spent a month in the Burgundy region of France and wow, what an experience!

Wow! That must have been a great time! The best we've done thus far is a long weekend in Napa last year. We began a self planned tour in Carneros, stayed in a B&B on HWY. 34 (the commercialized side), and then followed up with the Silverado Trail up to Calistoga... Drove the Pacific Coast HWY. back to San Francisco, and flew back home. Shipped back about 8 cases. One of the best 4 day excursions I've ever had! Looking forward to going back already...

This is a great post! You seem pretty well versed in wines. I love a rich, earthy, oaky red wine. California reds are my favorite! Never been to Napa but we had a small winery near where I lived in south Florida (I even have a post on it here in the Wine Lovers Group)! Napa would be a fantastic trip that I definitely have to consider.

Bo, The Napa Valley is on my list of must do's, the coastline looks unbelievably beautiful. Do you have photo's, I feel the need for you to write a post about your trip!

Hey, Rich! Yes, I'd have to say California Reds are my favorite as well. My favorites had to have been Madonna Estate, which isn't sold in Georgia, but I'm a member of their wine club, Cakebread Cellars, which you can find at some restaurants (Capital Grill), and Rutherford Ranch, which I'm also a member. They ship me 3 bottles per quarter, and I'm able to order others throughout the year as well. A trip to Napa is a "must" for a wine lover. It pays to rent a Limo to take you around, as the tastings at most wineries begin at 9am, and by lunch, you are ready for a nap!

Hey, Debbie! I will definitely look at putting a blog together on Napa... I have pics., and was enthralled at the entire experience. The history, the making of the product, and the region itself are all fascinating! As you said, "a must do". My 4 day trip ran about $2000, including a lot of extras.

Hey, Virginia! That's funny! When I  was writing it, I was the one drinking it... It's always great to share a nice bottle, isn't it? I'm not sure of the poet, thing, though... LOL!

Bo~ I love the wine analogy and agree completely, though it is hard to do on a daily basis for those of us that are perfectionists.  I like the idea of drinking wine, I just haven't been able to get my taste buds on board with it.

Hi Amie... Thanks! I have many perfectionistic tendencies, as well, and I've found that these qualities allow me a greater focus on tasks at hand. With this said, I am able to appreciate the existential experience of going through the task in itself, creating a sense of self growth through my experiences!

The taste for wine truly is an acquired taste, much like sushi... I find those starting out should stick to a lighter bodied red, or a Chard. with a buttery finish to begin with, although, some Pinot Grigio's work out well for beginners as well!

Hi, Gary... Thanks for your comments! Were we to live void of passion, what a dreary life we'd live!

Hi, Glenda... Thanks! That sounds like a wonderful vision. It reminds me of my visit to Napa, sitting on the porch of Domain Carneros, sampling wine and eating cheese, fruit and nuts, while overlooking the vineyards in the valley and the mountains winding up the Silverado Trail in the distance!
