SCREAMS from the BEDROOM * rated "G"

I love doing open houses! Sometimes they are very lively with lots of screaming kids. One time a collage aged girl screamed when the light suddenly turned off while she was looking in the cold, dark cellar.  Some open houses are very ordinary.  Not long ago I was holding a open house in Cerritos Ca. As you know, the concept of an open house is simple. You set your signs out, open the door and you greet prospective buyers. What would be more routine?Just about anything. As I was saying, I was at this lovely 2 bed 1 ba condo w/fireplace in Cerritos Ca. It has a decent size sq footage and is all 1 level. I would greet the buyer at the door, show the living room and kitchen then I would send them down the hall to the bedrooms alone.

It was nearing the last hour of the open house when in walked (let's just call her "Grace". The names were changed to protect the innocent) "Hello, My name is Windy from Tarbell Realtors. Welcome to my open House" I stated as I was shaking her hand. Then I began the tour with the kitchen and living rm. Soon I sent her down the hall to the bedrooms.

As I am waiting, I can hear her progress. She walks down the hall,.. She pauses a moment or two looks into the bathroom,..She moves into the bedroom,.. "Make sure you look at the closet organizer" I called from the front room. I hear the closet door being slid open the next moment I hear....

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BLOOD CURDLING SCREAM !!!!  WHOOSH! A black streak flies past my feet followed by a wide eyed breathless women with her hair standing on end making a "bee-line" for the front door.  Running after her I asked her what happened.  "As soon as I opened the closet door a Giant Black Cat leaped down from the top-shelf right on top of my head, You didn't tell me there were more Cat's! " she exclaimed.

"Oh, I am very sor.." too late! She was down the stairs and on her way to a nervous breakdown. It's probably a good thing she was so rushed into leaving since I don't think I could have convinced her that the tears I had were those of sympathy, and that rolling on the ground in hysterical laughter was a common practice among Realtors at the close of open houses. Well anyways, I still have this lovely 2 bed 1 ba condo for sale in Cerritos, Ca. If anyone has a buyer please call. OH, by the way did I mention the flying cat ?!

JACKIE: I find open houses quite fun! Even if no one shows up I can catch up on reading and calls. Besides you never know what story may happen. Thank you for your encouragement in the sale of my condo.

GAIL T: I have never heard of anyone being afraid of cats before this happened. There are a lot of people who don't like cats. I am sure that's why there are so many dead cat jokes. What does your co-worker Realtor do when she goes on listing appts when the sellers have cats in the house?

STEVE: WOW! I thought" the catching the naked girl getting out of the shower story" was an urban legend. So, it really happened to you!? That must of have been a weird crazy moment in time. What did her parents say?

Windy - great post - good job with an "eye-catching" title!  Maybe she's superstitious.  If it's bad luck for a black cat to cross your path, can it be 10 times worse for a black cat to jump on your head?

By the way - how in the world did women have such tiny waistlines in the 40s and 50s?  Good pictures!

HI Windy, Cute Story!  At a showing I had a buyer walk into a bedroom, look around and jump sky high.  What the person saw was that there was a blob under the comforter - about 18" around that started moving.  Of course it was a cat - it never did come out, it was just moving around under the blanket.  Turned the buyer white as a ghost.

Penny: Thank you for the compliment re the title. I did go back and forth thinking it may be too risque' thats why I added the rating. Since the black cat  jumped on my head too maybe that's why the condo is not selling yet! The waistlines were really small back then. Remember Elizabeth Taylor's waist in Cleopatra?

APRIL: Now it's my turn to laugh re your story ! People are soooo funny! Maybe too many spooky movies with black cats make people jumpy. I appreciate you commenting on my post and adding your experience with a cat.

Sometimes you just need to have a good laugh at an open house to make you want to have more! I thought for sure it was going to be a mouse or something when I started reading this, cat is much better!

Todd: Thank you for stopping by to read my post. I am glad I didn't let the cat out of the bag in the beginning of the story. It's true re open houses. This past part of the year has been dead. Now the dead are coming back to life and coming back to open houses. I hope to have some more stories to tell A/R soon.

LORI F: Well, there was something dreadful in the bedroom. The son had a GRATEFUL DEAD CD. CSI is gruesome, I hope I never have the experience of walking into a home with a dead body laying there. Thank you for your compliment on my post.

AUDREY: I am glad you enjoyed my story. I had that same cat land on my head too when I was filling out the disclosures months earlier. I forgot about the flying cat sleeping in the closet. The other cat was asleep on the couch. I let people know there are cats in hiding places.
