Home Inspector with Ellis Home Inspection Services

Some things don't seem to change, that is the quality of some work I've been seeing. I am wondering if perhaps it has something to do with hurricane Ivan. It's been over 3 years and some of those homes repaired are likely up for sale again. This is another picture of a poorly installed kick out flashing and a homemade extension.

I want to thank Jim Summers from the Pensacola, FL area for requesting to his client that we perform this home and stucco inspection and allowing me to put the photo on here at Activerain

Looks like innovation at its best if you ask me.  If it works why not do it is the mantra of the do it selfer.

Jim,

Another great home inspection.   My buyer was very impressed with how you did your job.

Thanks again for another job done right!

Poor, workmanship. You mentioned hurricane Ivan, are you seeing additional homes like this?

Hey Carl,

Yes, I'm seeing a more than normal amount of poor workmanship. After Ivan it was extremely difficult to find a good reliable contractor. Many people thought they might be getting the short end of some contracts but felt it was better than nothing and worth the risk. I've been through a number of court cases involving some repairs and building since Ivan but has slowed down considerably. I'm guessing the last of the movers are headed out of town before hurricane season and the rest of the poor work is showing up in repo's. Could be those people that bought at higher prices due to the housing shortage we had for a while.

Looks like the sidewall flashing is questionable too.

I remember when someone took pride in their workmanship. This appears to be happening everywhere, just throw it up and let someone worry about it at a later time.

Jim,

It's amazing some of thing we see. We need to increase our fees since inspections are taking longer.
