Throwback Thursdays: The Easter Shirt

By

Throwback Thursdays... The Easter Shirt.

Our first home was in the Renton Highlands, referred to by locals back then as 'the projects'. These little homes were mass built in the early 1940’s during World War II to house the families that moved here to build airplanes at Boeing...

This was taken in the Spring of 1956 just before Easter. I’m wearing one of the shirts that Mom made for the three of us boys that year, just for the occasion. Funny, I’ve come full circle. My haircut and glasses look almost the same now as they did back then.

René Fabre, 1956. Renton Highlands.

Mom and Dad bought this little home in late 1951, early 1952. If memory serves me right they paid around $1,200 for it. In 1958 we moved across town to the Earlington Neighborhood on the west side of Renton.

Rene,  Good one.  Can't help but chuckle.  So you way back then.  Even the 'cat got the canary' smirk.

Rene, You have made full circle!  It's interesting to learn how many of us had homemade clothing back in the 50s.

Gotta love the haircut, Rene'.  Your little face reminds me of a kid on the block I grew up.  Gary was his name.  We were good friends, when he wasn't pulling my hair!

Adrian... Almost ironical isn't it. And I wonder, will I become a characture of myelf?

Kathy... Funny is, I had long and longer hair for a long time.

Alexandra... I hadn't really thought of it, but when I came across this photo I see my mom did a pretty creative collar... It would be fun to have a shirt like that now.

Mark... Does kinda a look like there's an inside joke going on.

Bette... Indeed. Mom used to make us all kinds of clothing, especially for the holidays.

Bob... One is humbled. Life certainly has a sense of humor.

Brian... a bit rounder in the face! Gravity at work!

Myrl... After wearing my hair longer for many years I guess I'm leaning more and more towards function. It's a little thinner and for some reason (and I've always had one) my cowlick rules.

Joe... You're welcome. Proof, if you live long enough, it all comes back around!

Rob... Indeed! I remember dreaming about the future and how technology was going to make life easier and buy me more time. I don't have that dream anymore. No time for it. The technology has me too busy. :O)

Oh, Rene~, I have to say, how very very sweet..as even the tilt of your head is the same. How delightful that you have stayed true to the soulful and thoughtful character that you present in this wonderful photo. I love both the past AND the present of Rene`.

Grant... Thanks! Aging like a fine wine? Maybe... :O)

Debbie... Thank you. I am approachable. I smile at people I don't know just cuz and am still fascinated by simple little things. Guess I'm easily entertained.

Gayle... thanks! I'm far from perfect, aim to be better, somewhat conflicted at times, a wandering minstral, and I can't help but look around me with awe to ponder the universe and its amazing mysteries.
