Things to do in Richmond: The Science Museum of Virginia
As summer winds down, my husband and I decided to take a day off and treat the kids to a trip to the Science Museum of Virginia. We had all intentions of going for their Shark Week, however we missed it by one day. Fear not! There is always something fun to explore!
Science Museum of Virginia: How to Make a Monster
One of the exhibits currently hosted at the museum is the "How to Make a Monster" display. This is a very interesting and informative exhibit that goes behind the scenes of movie sets to show how they make a monster. In the photo here you will see me and my kids trying to replicate the monster behind us. I don't know about you, but I think I came the closest! Displays include animatronic crocodiles, gadgets from the movie Inspector Gadget 2, and even a story board of Wolfman!
Boost! at the Science Museum of Virginia
I think my favorite exhibit by far was the interactive Boost display which has become a permanent exhibit at the museum. Here you can grab a card with a QR code for each station so you can keep track of your progress from visit to visit! As soon as we walked-in, all of us gravitated towards walking the tight-rope. I thought this would be EASY as it only requires concentration and balance. Since I was wearing high heels, I slipped them off and went barefoot. Yeah...I didn't get very far! My children tried various way to get across the rope, falling off on about step three each time. It was FUN! Other psychical stations include a kitchen stadium, a video booth, and a flexibility area where you can see how small you can make yourself for shipping! (I fit in a golf bag, by the way!) Science Museum of Virginia: Live Science
Since we missed out on the Shark film and my kids didn't want to watch a movie on Pandas, we opted to head to the Rat Basketball show. Yes, you read that correctly! We watched two rats play basketball and receive rewards for their efforts. My kids were thrilled to get to pet the rats and, as parents, John and I were even happier to see they had hand sanitizer on the ready!
Things To Do in Richmond: The Science Museum of Virginia
There are so many exciting things happening each day at the museum that you simply must explore it for yourself! The cost for exhibits is $11, $16 for the exhibits and entry into the Dome theatre, or FREE is you become a member! As a mother, a membership would certainly pay for itself rather quickly as my kids are already nagging me to go back!
