Stablewood Subdivision is a 72 acre community with 121 homes located just outside of the 610 Loop. Incorporated in 1992, Stablewood was developed by Jim and Margaret Elkins and Walter Mischer, Sr., and was modeled after North and South Boulevard in Boulevard Oaks. It is one of the first subdivisions built in central Houston in the 1960's, and the first subdivision established in the Tanglewood area. Stablewood also holds the distinction of being the first private, gated and guarded subdivision in the Houston area. Stablewood has a very active Homeowner's Association that is responsible in the management and maintenance of the subdivision.

What's the Neighborhood Like?
Stablewood Subdivision has 135 home lots and eight streets. All eight streets are privately owned. The guardhouse, which controls access into the community, is located on Memorial Drive. Residents use key cards to enter and exit through the other main entrance on Post Oak Boulevard. Homes in Stablewood are spacious with a minimum of 4,200 sq. ft.. There are six oversized lots, where the largest lot has 1.5 acres of land.
Stablewood Women's Association is pretty active and provides social opportunities for its residents by organizing special events, social activities, clubs and committees for the neighborhood. Some of their events include Wine & Cheese Socials, the Needlepoint Club, the Investment Club and the Book Club. They also host an Easter Egg Hunt and a Halloween party for the children, a Stable Block Party, and a Holiday Party for the entire neighborhood.

The Post Oak YMCA is near the Stablewood Subdivision, as well as several public parks and a local branch of the Houston Public Library called the Jungman Branch.
