It's TOO Hot to See Homes Today

By

Here we are in August, and the Gainesville Real Estate market has been cooking this season.   Busy is a very good thing!   I love to brag that I always have the best clients!  Most who know me, know that I love working with buyers!

Gainesville market is busy and no complaints at all.   Public schools have started, and the college kids are all rolling into town this week too. The start of school has always created a slow-down of our local market.  (In my opinion)  And I'm looking forward to football.

It's HOT in GainesvilleScheduling buyers for showings on weekends is often a tight schedule and we all have to plan ahead.   Sometimes we can be in and out of the car for showings in pouring down rain.....after all, it's summer time in Gainesville!   And when my clients are out-of-towners, there isn't much choice on the weather when they arrive.

But I had a good laugh today.

I had scheduled a showing yesterday for one of my local buying clients.

Yes, we've had strange weather this summer.   One day can be torrential rain, horrible lightning, thunder boomers.....then other days are sweltering heat, no breeze, and no rain relief. I tend to get a bit cranky when we go several days with no rain.....it's a Florida thing.

My clients called mid day and asked that we postpone the showing we had scheduled.   I said, no problem!   But, I was curious and concerned and asked why?

She said it's just too HOT.   Can we do this one day next week after work?

I laughed and said sure thing, we can re-schedule.  I want to keep my buyers happy.

This was a first for me in my real estate career....a client saying is was too hot to go see homes!  Yet, it made me go look at my outdoor thermometer yesterday.  So here's proof it was 100 degrees, in the shade of my back porch!  And yep......that's HOT.

Luckily, it rains late afternoon and cooled things down!

If my buyers told me that - I'd be thinking - gosh we'll have a long 6 month break out of the year!

It's going to be 90 and super humid here again today.  I don't mind sweating and showing homes, but if my clients didn't want to, I'm down.  I'd go on a bike ride instead!

Video open house on demand showings. The weather, hot, cold, raining... matters not and your buyer is anywhere on the planet. That can lock into your video signal.

The most important home I sell is YOURS!

On Friday January 24th, I was showing houses in the sleet.  Now for all you northerners, this doesn't sound awful, but for this warm weather girl it was nasty.  I promised on January 24, 2014, NOT to complain about the heat.  So far, so good.  Bring it on September.

Next time, tell her you have a cold bottled water in the car waiting for her. It's been 100+ here for 18 days (or is it 19)... I've never had a cancelation for "too hot".

Up here in Canada my slowest month is July because it is too hot and humid for anyone to even think about buying or selling.  Kids are out of school and people are in vacation mode!   We'll tour in ice and snow but heat? No way!

(and yes, it gets up over 100 degrees and the air is so thick with humidity you can see waves in the air!!)

My favorite time of year is coming up, autumn and winter. I tend to slow down in the summer, it's too hot to do anything remarkable.

Hello Christine,
We have had some of those 100 degree days too, but most likely with much less humidity than Florida.

Christine, the weather here is unpredictable in August too. We are in the middle of Monsoon Season, where it suddenly starts pouring rain with Lighting, yet it will remain 90 degress outside. I'm ready every day for my schedule to change with my Clients. You just never know.

Summer is going to be over soon, and I am enjoying the light and bright -- even the hot!  In the Pacific NW we will not see this until . . . next summer.  I do like it when there's a break and glad to heard you got one!

My first year in real estate in New York City, I showed property through 12 out of 13 snow storms. And I missed the 13th only because my client cancelled!

Wow, thanks for the featured post today!

I hope you all know this was a "fun" post.  We all have a "first" in real estate, no matter how long we've been in our profession.  I wanted to share the funny.

I have no clue what it's like to show property in snow, sleet, and below freezing temps......you northerners dealing with that white stuff are real troopers!

Thanks for all the comments and visits!

Christine -- That's so funny. I'd rather do too hot than too cold!  We have to deal with frigid cold and snow and ice and unshoveled walkways and driveways.  The heat is just, well, HOT.  But the car has AC. The house usually does as well and for me, it's just so much easier to show in the summer heat than the winter cold. I'll take it anyday. But that's me. I love the heat.

The weather is getting crazy everywhere...also I thinking about the Realtors showing properties during a snow season.. OMG that must be very scary... Not to hot either too cold :-)

Susan Emo #22 ....sorry, but muggy Ontario isn't going to trump a lot of us around this post at the moment.

But Christine, silly silly silly buyer.  If it's too hot for them, then it's too hot for everyone else. And the opportunity is when everyone else isn't shopping.  So, put on the sandals and turn up the a/c, and get some showings done.

Too hot is all about perspective!  Looks like it was HOT if that was in the shade.  On the other hand, at least you will know that the AC works on a day like that.  Hope that you have better weather for your buyers next week.

That's pretty funny, Christine.  Considering it's summertime in Florida, it's always hot.  I'm further south and it's really been hot here this summer.
