Remembering Laurie Manny-- Four Years Later

Mortgage and Lending with San Diego VA Home Loans/858-777-9751

I was in a bit of a funky mood today and I couldn't figure it out.  I posted on Active Rain for the first time in over three years; I was trying to drop a backlink for a post on my San Diego mortgage blog.  Bob Stewart reached out to me, over the summer, and invited me to start posting here again but I waited until today.  Why?

Laurie Manny, of Long Beach real estate fame, my dear friend, died four years ago today.  Maybe her spirit drew me back here.  Laurie was one of the original Active Rain bloggers and, along with Rich Jacobson, one of the first volunteer moderators on the network.

Rather than give you a lot of stories about Laurie (there were plenty of them--she was a pistol). I"ll share an interview I did with her back in 2008:

Hi Brian, It is good to see you back here instead of wasting all your time on Facebook.

I miss Laurie also.     The life went out of the Southern California Real Estate group with her passing.

Hi Bill Roberts .  Each social platform has a purpose and my efforts on Facebook have served the stated purpose well.  Active Rain has a purpose as well and you'll probably see more of me.

The key thing to remember about social platforms for business is getting to pillar #5--off line meetings.  I've been successful at doing that both here and on Facebook.

I have to agree with you that every social platform has its benefit and purpose. Whether it is AR, FB or long as it brings us leads and brand recognition, we then know that we are on the right path.

Glad to see you back, hope I get to know you better thru your future blogs.

Thank you for introducing Laurie Manny to me...her memories will live on.

Oh how I remember that day . . . I called up a real estate colleague of mine who is in Long Beach to let them know.  Four years ago, amazing how time flies!  May Laurie RIP, dear woman.  Thank you for this post.

I learned about SEO from her.  I devoured her posts until I understood what she was talking about.  I mourned her passing.  I had not seen this interview so thank you for putting it in your post.  She knew what she was doing and where she was going.  A really big influence on me and many others in those days.  Sigh, I miss her...

I remember when Laurie died.  It was shocking and terribly sad.  Funny, I was thinking about her just a couple of days ago, perhaps picking up your vibes . . . or hers.  Hard to believe so much time has passed.

Wow, I can't believe so much time has passed. Maybe something drew me here as well. Four years ago I was working for as part of the SEO team. During my time there, I've been witness to many independent Realtor sites, with varying degrees of effort put into developing and maintaining them. I've always believed that a real estate team that has its act together can do very well in their respective markets when it comes to marketing online. From my corner perspective, I was aware of and amazed at how Laurie dominated the Long Beach SEO rankings. Remember, this was at a time when many of her peers were still learning how to develop an online presence.

Glad to see you back!

Yep, Laurie was a gem in many ways. It's still hard to beleve someone so vibrant and full of life is gone. And she gave so much of herself to AR, the blogging world in general, and to Long Beach Real Estate. It took me a while before I could delete her email and contact info from my phone and email .
