Fishhawk Lake Real Estate-If You're Being Run Out of Town....

Get in Front and Make it Look Like a Parade

I saw this on the wall of  my acting coach  many years ago and thought that not only did it always make me laugh, but it gave me perspective on my not-so-brilliant characteristics.

There are times when we really screw up. So badly, that we can't even share our foibles with our best friends. It's too tender. So....we act like complete idiots, ehhhh, so what? Everybody screws up. Everybody, (yup, including Jesus) questions themselves on decisions they have made, things they may have said...I don't have to go on, as this is a BIG ONE with all of us, whether we admit it to ourselves or not.

Anyway, my longwinded POINT is, how do you deal with it? Do you act like a raging bull? Do you whine ad nauseum to all of your closest friends? Or do you take the high road, say to yourself, "I screwed up. OKAY,  I embrace it! "  and let the world know your vulnerability or do you buck up, take it like a man, be your own superhero and simply

Shift the Focus to the Positive?

Ha...we all screw up from time-to-time. I generally face the music - admit an error and then work to fix it...but, bottom line, we have to move on and vow to learn from the mistake. That's the test of character isn't it? When things go perfectly - life it easy. It's the bumps in the road that test our mettle as people.

Although, the clown costume might be an option - divert the attention elsewhere? Lol.

Gayle,

It is so much easier in the long run to face the music and make things better if you can.  I am somewhat stunned when a person starts making up stuff and blaming someone else.  We had an assistant who would inevitably be late even when I would specify that we needed her on time.  One time I got in really early to the office, because I was expecting a client who had a flight to make.  She limped in late, and I said to her, do you realize how we feel when you are late, we have to do what you do instead of giving your client full attention?

She said: It was the freeway! and do YOU realize how I Feel?  DUH!  A

Gayle, I will lament over it in my head until I process it. I own my mistakes. I correct my mistakes. I forgive myself. And, I move on. Some lessons I give myself over and over.  I guess I will continue to do that until I really get the lesson.  My biggest lessons are hiring clowns who pretend to be experts!

Hi Gayle - I had a mentor years and years ago who taught me to own my mistakes, do my best to make them right, learn from them and move on. It has been great advice, even if it's at times painful and expensive.

Hi Gayle,

Love this post! Everyone makes mistakes at some point..we just have to take ownership of them, figure out how to make it right and then move on!!

Gayle, there is nothing better than a parade, especially if it has a marching band with a really good piccolo player.  Brings tears to my eyes.

Oh, and that other thing?  You pick yourself up, shake yourself off and start all over again!  I'm sort of doing that right now.

I tend to be pretty tough on myself Gayle.  Used to be embarrassed making them until I realized ever one did also ...just shifted the blame else where.   Still tough on myself but the good part is I long ago stopped feeling bad about fessing up to a mistake.  Mine to own.
