Services for Real Estate Pros with Home Tips for Women

Many home owners don't have a regular schedule for home maintenance. For car maintenance, you know who to call and they often send reminders. We don't have an equivalent for home maintenance. Most home owners don't have a handyman they call regularly for these routine jobs. A recent survey conducted by My Handyman received the following responses, which helps explain why the pre-sales punchlist can be rather long.

Contractor Relationship Survey Results

The following list represents the most common repairs My Handyman completes on homes getting ready for sale in New England. If you find this helpful, let me know and I can work with other My/Mr Handyman owners across the country to prepare a more complete list for your region.

  1. Repair/replace the kick plates under exterior doors due to water damage caused by splash back.
  2. Repair/replace rotted window sills caused by dirt accumulating & holding water in the corners.
  3. Repair/replace stairs/walkway materials that are cracked, loose or missing (brick, bluestone most common).
  4. Repair damage where decks attached to house improperly (flashing and/or drainage missing/inadequate).
  5. Clean/repair gutters and repair fascia boards behind gutters.
  6. Repair/replace damaged/missing siding, often around base behind shrubs or where utilities enter house.
  7. Repair decks (split boards, nails) and/or pressure wash and stain decks to improve appearance.
  8. Replace mailboxes, doorbells and exterior lights and re-screen doors/windows to improve appearance.
  9. Repair retaining walls as needed.
  10. Touch up painting in hard to reach areas like corner boards and fascia up 2 to 3 stories (gable ends).
My Handyman offers realtors a professional "Realtor Ready Checklist" to help you advice sellers about repairs they should make prior to listing their home.
