Would you be better for it or bitter for it? You see experience and knowledge that comes with learning as you go it is undervalued at times. WHY? Fear followed closely by doubt does it. It tries to "take away" from what you know. Something goes wrong and your world goes to pieces. More accurately, it is your comfort zone that crashed not the world.
A MATURE MAN SHARES
I worked with a extremely wealthy man who went through the depression and two world wars for over a decade. One day, he made a statement to me, a young naive married man who could not appreciate the depth or the meaning of it but it was implanted into my Psyche....It would prove useful in time
THIS MILLIONAIRE SAID....
He said..."If I lost everything tomorrow, I could start over no problem. I recall my first thought and reaction was one of fear and dread and then, when I recovered and came out of my thoughts and emotions, I asked him HOW? How could you start over? How could you do that?
EXPERIENCE CAN'T BE BOUGHT OR LEARNED
The simplicity of his answer floored me to silence. I KNOW WHAT TO DO. He said with confidence too. Nothing else was said and I have pondered it over the years. What did I discover? He was right! Knowledge is power and that is what they try to do when you apply to get a degree of some sort
WHAT TYPE OF KNOWING?
They want to empower you for your journey. The problem is that quality of knowledge, its usefulness and application remains the wild card. For instance I have met people who know a lot about everything making them socially interesting but when viewed for its practicality....it lacks. Game show knowledge?
TRAINING PRIMES THE PUMPS
Another dynamic is telling or teaching someone something versus letting them discover it on their own. Reality based experiences differ from hypothetical situations like night and day. Called training, you cannot prepare anyone for what exactly will happen only what we think will happen. Reality rules!
DON'T DWELL IN SHOCK
There is a shock that accompanies an act of failing that causes us to temporarily lose out minds, senses, hope and the will to go on. I can relate. When your own beliefs fail, when the blame stops, the obvious presents itself and it can be overwhelming. You are left standing to confront you and how you got here
LET'S DO IT
But lets go back to the previous point. If you really knew what you do and how and had a mastery of it, then starting over would be a nuisance, a temporary blow to the ego and pride and as soon as you found your center, your path and your drive to power the journey, you would activate it all and begin
I DIDN'T LIKE IT....BUT WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH IT?
I have had to start over a few times. Never planned it either. But it wasn't like starting out new. It was different in so many small ways. I knew how to say yes more than no, to work when others hesitated and trusted the outcome of reaping & sowing. Effort in anything produces results.
WHAT HE KNEW...HELD
My last thought: I met a man once who was homeless. He was super intelligent and would describe every airplane that flew overhead in detail. I asked, how do you know these things? He said that he designed and built them for decades. This was his subject. He was not homeless in my eyes anymore and his problems lay elsewhere but not in what he knew.....that held!
