Tired of those 50 year old bushes which now hide your home? – Maybe you have a driveway that looks like the bottom of a dried up lake? – Interested in selling your home but it looks like a foreclosure from the front?
Improving your home’s curb appeal doesn’t need to break the bank. – It can cost as little as $500 if you don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty. – When it comes time to sell your home, your realtor will thank you as well.
Your bushes probably looked great 50 years ago, but are challenging to trim when they grow to be larger than your car. – Try replacing them with small box hedges, an assortment of flowers, and quality mulch (not the cheap ‘red’ stuff). Removing an old bush will cost around $200 and box hedges usually cost about $60/each. You want to hide your home’s foundation in front so only 2 foot tall hedges or bushes are needed.
For blacktop driveways, resurface every 2 years and don’t do it yourself. It is well worth $250 - $300 to have professionals resurface (and you won’t go to bed smelling like tar).
For cracked cement driveways, try sealing the cracks with Ace Hardware’s crack sealer. Replacing a cement drive or sidewalk can be pricey, however, it will last at least 30 years and enhance your home’s value by the same amount you spend to have it done.
For bigger landscaping ideas, Google your home style with the word “nice” (ex. “nice Colonial home”). -- Don’t spend $2,000 for a “landscape designer” when you can do it yourself and use that money for the landscaping itself.
Most of all, take your time and have fun! -- Landscaping can be one of the most relaxing hobbies. -- Most people don’t realize it until they get started and then see the results!
