Well it's Sunday and it's cold, dreary and raining. Keith and I are starving and tired of the same old, same old. Where to eat????? We start the typical "Where do you want to go?" "I don't know. Where do you want to go?" rountine. This is a routine that is very frustrating to me. I will name a place and Keith will say no. (You know he is a food snob, right?) So we are driving around Decatur looking for something new. After driving past The Depeaux thousands of times in the past year or so we decide today is the day we go for it.
The Depeaux is located in the 100+ year old train depot. They have a great bar on the top portion and then the resturant in the lower portion. Great ambience. We like ambience. Our waiter, Troy shows up and even though he is from Utah he has a great New Orleans feel to him. He sits down and starts talking to us like we are great friends. I love this. You know me, never meet a stranger. Keith orders a Blue Martinini with Blue Chees Stuffed Olives to drink and I get a VooDoo something or other. Since I am not a big drinker I like to try the sweet "Fru-Fru" drinks. This one was great with vanilla rum, dark rum, pineapple and other things in it. Keith loved his Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives. So far, all is right with the world.
I ordered the Marinated Crab Fingers for an appetizer. 7 lovely crab claws arrive marinated in a vinegrette. Yummy! Now, as most of you know, I do not do spicy. Keith does spicy. I ordered the grilled grouper. It had a nice lemon butter on it. This was the lightest, flakiest piece of fish I have had in a while and the crab on top was to die for. Keith ordered the grouper with crawfish etouffee. The grouper was blackened. He enjoyed it and said that is wasn't just spicy for spicy sake but had a great flavorful taste.
This is a most go back for us. You should check them out. They are located at 303 E. Howard Ave., Decatur. Their phone number is 404-474-2591.
