Do We get Intimidated with a First Look?
I was getting ready to play golf this morning at a course named The Preserve. The name alone set the tone for the course as it is a nature sanctuary with a championship curse running through it. The practice range was set up with island greens for testing hitting distance and accuracy, and anything hit wrong went into the water.
As the course winds through a wildlife sanctuary, 16 of 18 holes have water that needs to be navigated to score well.
Our real estate business can be equally as intimidating and challenging at times:
- The buyers that have high expectations but do not have the financial power to make the purchase. They will look for a home without getting qualified and then have to deal with the reality and disappointment of where their search needs to focus.
- The buyers that attempt to use a home inspection as a point to renegotiate the purchase even though the home had been priced for conditions.
- The sellers that expect a buyer to have the same appreciation for the home that they had and be willing to overlook deferred or no maintenance issues and still pay top dollar for the home.
- The sellers that want to deliberately leave negotiating dollars on the listing in a tight buyer's market.
We face all manner of issues and are expected to use our skills and tact to navigate the challenges while still keeping our cool. We are always attempting to get our clients to the closing tables as quickly as possible but need to be wary of an obstacle unforeseen that challenges our knowledge and makes us use our skills to solve.
Every day is like playing a new course. We don't know what we will face and what we will have to do to overcome the lie we have. Years of practice and repetition allow us to accept those challenges and with the confidence to know we will meet our objective.
