With more than 8.7 million visitors to the Museum District it offers a diverse cultural experience. The Museum District offers 20 museums encompassing a radius of 1.5-miles. For non-walkers, a free Metro bus shuttle makes stops within the Museum District to enjoy all the Museum District has to offer. The Museum District is divided into four zones.
In Zone 1 there are three museums: Houston Center for Photography, Rothko Chapel and the Menil Collection.
In Zone 2 there are nine museums: Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, Diverse Works, Czech Center Museum Houston, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Lawndale Art Center, The John C. Freeman Weather Museum, Asia Society Texas Center and the Holocaust Museum Houston.
In Zone 3 there are three museums: The Jung Center of Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
In Zone 4 there are five museums: Children’s Museum of Houston, The Health Museum, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Rice Gallery and the Houston Zoo.
