Here are the three things I'm thankful for today:
I am so thankful that I still have all of my senses, sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
One of my early heroines was Helen Keller, and she still is. No sight, no sound.
Another person I admire is Sarah Ban Breathnach. She lost her sense of taste and smell for a year or so.
Think about losing any one of these senses. What would you do? Roll up into a ball or fight for what you have left to work with?
Another thing I am thankful for is the fact that I can live in a society where I am not masked, robed and silent because I am a woman. And, that I can make choices about when, where and whom I would like to get to know in a more intimate setting.
I am also thankful that I live in a very quiet area with little to no crime. No one is parading down the street, except little kids, there's no loud noises, except for the occasional fireworks on a weekend night or sometimes an emergency vehicle for a fire or medical emergency. and no one is at my door demanding jewels, money or a hostage.
We have a good life in America. Call yours precious.
