Ahoy! Me Newbies, My Bonnie Lies Under the Ocean. It's more than just a sea chanty, a dire warning as well!

Arghhhh! I should have listened to my own advice.

I recently started helping my mother navigate through the Active Rain sea of blogs, showing her the ropes and preparing her for her inevitable first blog as a newbie swab.

We touched on a number of topics from the tell tale signs of a good blog, to the dangerous shoals of slanderous speech and the sirens song of copy righted material.

We  sailed trough a number of topics about the how to's when all of a sudden she wanted to dive right in and start blogging away.

Ahoy! Says I, It's best to write your blog first in your word processing software on your PC and then copy and paste it into Active Rain.

Why? Says she, unknowing the fate of typing without worry directly into the AR site.   Because if you loose your connection while your blogging your content will slip beneath the choppy surface of cyberspace never to be seen again.

Well wouldn't ya know it, I was blogging away inspired by a comment and eager to get my blog afloat when after a good hour, I'm a slow logger, I lost me connection. Now my bonnie blog lies next to Davie Jones' locker forever lost.

Arghhhh, no matter how much I curse my wretched connection and service provider, nothing can bring her back accept me memories.

Don't lose your head and heed my advice.

Cheers mates!

Kimo, I learned that the hard way myself.  I always do my blogs in notepad, save it, then cut and paste.

Good advice, Kimo - especially about cutting and pasting - losing a blog (much less a train of thought) when service fails is a major bummer!

Ahoy Kimo:

This is your mother! Mahalo for the advice and thank goodness my ship has yet to sail. When I finally cast off I am confident that my little lifeboat named the "DRAFT" will make it safely through the swells and currents and I will do me son proud.

As a seafaring aficianado meself, I appreciate the humor of your very funny and witty blog. Also enjoyed the many responses from the other mates adrift on the open seas---even the green blue-brown Hudson River.

A hui ahoy, Mother

Hi Kimo,  what a terrible thing!  You know what they say about blogging and a word processor?  They should be as one.  Too bad Active Rain doesn't have an automatice save after a certain amount of time or a certain number of words.  But, of course it would have to be saved as a DRAFT!  Well, I'm sure Davey is takin good care of the BLOG.

Avast me maties,

Thankee, for ye kind words and comments.

Me hopes that ye

Lashes of life be short and shallow,

Your grog be strong and sweet,

Your hard tack, soft and callow

And easier to eat
