Colorado Skiing-It's Now or Never

Spring Skiing

Well if Never means next November, than the headline is accurate.  Spring skiing should be in full swing this week as mountain resorts have received up to a foot and a half of snow over the past 24 hours.

In Steamboat Springs, the ski resort broke a record for seasonal snowfall.  With 470 inches (and counting) of snow this season, they have easily eclipsed the previous seasonal record of 447.5 inches.  The average snowfall at the Steamboat Resort is 334 inches!  For those who are mathematically challenged, that is almost 40 feet of snow this year!  My back is aching just thinking about it.

All the other Resorts have experienced similar great snowfall, and the powder should be deep until the time the resorts must close down for the season.  Unfortunately, this year the snow will probably outlive the season.

Steamboat and it's record snowfall (18 inches in the last 2 days) will close in 1 week!  April 6th is the last day for ripping, shredding, swooshing, falling for the 2008 season.  Vail & Winter Park both close up shop on the 13th of April, while Breckenridge turns off the lights on April 20th.  The snow will still be great, so expect the crowds to be large at Breck that last weekend!

It is rumored that a few of the resorts may try and squeeze another week of revenue out of the season, but no announcements yet.  Seasonal Labor and Forest Service regulations dictate when the resorts close down.

Spring skiing is one of the GREAT benefits of living in Colorado!  Temps on great days can be in the 50's with powder above you boots, what else could a guy want?

I never miss my skiing in Colorado.  However, I did miss it this year.  We just gave birth last year to a newborn.  I'm back next year...can't wait.
