A mere thirteen years ago today the United States of America was the victim of a terrorist attack that took the lives of thousands and changed the way that we look at security.
It’s hard to believe that such a horrific episode could be executed by a mere eight individuals bent on wreaking as much death and devastation as possible.
Living in a free society makes us vulnerable. And as long as we have a modicum of liberty the Achilles Heel will be fully exposed to exploitation.
The knee-jerk reaction to 9-11 was to sacrifice liberty for security. And many are readily willing to accept the erosion of freedom for the practical reason of survival.
While we all need to be alert and aware of what is going on around us, if we live in fear then the terrorists have already won.
And even as new threats arise, we can choose to either stand tall or to cower in fear.
I prefer to stand tall!
