Happy Patriot's Day on September 11, 2014

In the United States, Patriot Day, observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance occurs on September 11 of each year in memory of the 2,977 people killed in the 9/11 attacks.

A bill to make September 11 a national day of mourning was introduced on October 25, 2001 that requested the President designate September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day". President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law to proclaim September 11, 2002 as the first Patriot Day and each year to follow.

In the immediate aftermath of the attacks, President George W. Bush proclaimed Friday September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001.

Hi Kristin-this day actually needs no formal name or Presidential proclamation-everyone knows where they were and what they were doing, sort of like November 22. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Joanna,

I just had a client tell me something important happened on that same date and she will never forget what day it was.

November 22, 1962-I remember I was living on an Air Force Base going to the elementary school there and they had the military police and parents taking us all home that day as we went into lock down mode for several months. We were the furthest military north in the US and govt. thought Russia would attack soon. My dad went on alert and I didn't see him for a long while as they got the missiles ready and planes in the air. It was scary.
