The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 drew nearly 400 dogs, the largest deployment of Search and Rescue dogs in the history of the United States.
Today let’s honor the dogs and their handlers on the anniversary of the tragedy, and be reminded we should all cherish man’s best friend.
This is a photo of "Cevitas My Memory Leif" taken on a street in Manhattan shortly after the terrorist attack on 9.11. The Leonberger Club of America had scheduled their sanctioned 2001 Fall Specialty for the end of September.
A decision was made to postpone the Specialty to the end of October. We changed the cover of the program to include the photo of Leif to pay tribute to the victims, recognize the Search and Rescue dogs and the work of their handlers, and the thousands of others who took part in the huge rescue mission.
