A South Carolina Small Town Treasure

This is the 40th year for this very cute small town festival. If you would like to step back in time to a much simpler lifestyle and slow pace, you really must venture out to Hardeeville, SC. Yes, there is life beyond the beaches of Hilton Head and the fancy hotels; there is life beyond the burgeoning Bluffton! This weekend marks a celebration of what Hardeeville is all about; family, faith, and CATFISH!

South Carolina Small TownIt's Not Just the Food

Where else can you go for funnel cakes, corn dogs, and gator bites served out of a food truck? Where else can you go to see the Little Miss Catfish or the Queen of the Catfish Festival? Don't forget the crafts by local vendors - we don't say 'artisanal' out here - just creative crafts made by the locals. You'll find plenty to choose from since vendor organizer, Kim Powell, says that "this year there will be 30 arts and crafts vendors and 13 food vendors." What's not to love about this - not overwhelming just fun to walk around and get to know people and maybe pick something up for that hard to buy for person on your Christmas list!

Little Miss CatfishWhat's the schedule?

Friday night: Basically the kickoff for this event has music, amusement rides for the kids, food, and the crafts.

Saturday: Brings the annual parade at 10AM which begins at Hummingbird Lane (of course) and ends at City Hall (again, absolutely!). There are beauty queens, tractors, military marchers, high school floats, marching bands, and just anyone else who has registered to join in. Stay for the fireworks at 10PM to cap off your day.

Check out the posters and billboards throughout the Town to see exactly what's going on where, and what time - but generally, be sure to save room for the star of the whole weekend - the CATFISH!

Just a tip: The weather can still be a bit on the warm and humid side this time of September, be sure to bring bottled water and it's nice to also have a chair to park along the street to watch the parade or under the shade of one of their magnificent old oak trees as you enjoy your catfish delight!
