Blog writing tip #1. Attack the problem and not the person!

Blog writing tip #1. Attack the problem and not the person!Writing informative posts about real estate or any industry can be challenging at times.

We often want to write about problems and obstacles that we encounter in our day to day professional experiences.

And these kinds of experiences can indeed be learning opportunities IF they are properly presented in a constructive manner.

In order to do that, in my most humble opinion, one should attack the PROBLEM and not a PERSON. If one digresses into cynicism, condescension and personal attacks, one can forfeit credibility.

Stick to the facts. It isn’t about keeping score and winning. It is about laying out the course from problem to solution in an effective manner.

There is not place for ego in the reasoning process. If they facts are not enough to stand on their own merit, you may not have a case anyway!

And then it might be better to eschew the “publish” button!

Good Morning Richard: Stopping by from Kathy's. I have to concur 100 percent. I could have been guilty--- once or twice but will do better as you have said. It is more sensible to put it in this manner.

Thank you.

Richard: Egos should be left at the door! Attack the problem, not the person, and keep your credibility intact.

Good morning Richard, I think this should be our practice in life as well as in blogging to concentrate on the problem rather than the person.

Well that may be the best route to take, sometimes a person just wants to vent! So I can understand it. I guess I'm neutral on the subject like Switzerland.

Richard, I can't believe that you're being so obtuse!  It's so clear and obvious that any dimwit who could fog a mirror would know that it's just common sense.

you know I'm just kiddin', Richard, right?  Who loves ya baby?

I've pretty much given up on writing about problems and people I'm directly involved in, even if there are facts to back up what I'm presenting. It's a blog genre I've outgrown. If I were to, though, I'd follow your suggestion.

Richard,

It brings up the biblical reference to love the sinner, hate the sin.

Dedicated. Qualified. Local.

Always reference the problem and start a discourse around that.  Getting off on the wrong foot and attacking a person, who may not have even been the cause, just the face you see when hearing about it, is not the best course of action.

People need to look in the mirror.   I have no problem writing about examples of time sucks.   Suck it up and say nothing about it ?!?  Oh my, might drive some business away . . .  OTOH, I just love reading about the self-promoting "Hey look at me, I'm better than that real estate blogger that does that."

I agree. There's no reason to comment on other ppls  business. How about getting and maintaining business by being good at your job, having tons of energy and enthusiasm, and going above and beyond the call of duty?

Hi Richard, I've seen a lot of situations where sarcasm and common sense took place. Everything good and everything fine are just nonexistent in almost all industries. Our ability to figure out the issue should always run so we won't get anything negative that could taint us.

I try not to write about negative things going on.  Except when I wrote the post about the Hatfield's and the McCoy's. These two neighbors, both trying to sell at the same time, was hillarious and yet frustrating!

Great point, Richard. But isn't that true of many controversies in life that need to be resolved? Attacking someone doesn't resolve anything. Attacking the problem can.

Problems and the solutions to them are all that need to be focused on. I totally agree. Especially when these types of forums can be used as a place to come for solutions to problems a lot of people could be facing that are in similar industries. If you disagree with a person keep it to yourself, or if you feel that strongly appraoch them privately instead of doing so publicly.
