4 Things that Decrease a Home's Value

There are many things that can decrease a home's value but there are four that can have the largest negative impact. Unfortunately they are all common and can be destroying your homes value with out you realizing it.

1. Smoking: Cigarette smoke leaves an odor behind that the smoker may not notice but that will immediately offend any non-smoker. Smoking also yellows walls and ceilings.

2. Pets: Just as smoking can be easily smelled by non-smokers, pet odor is most obvious to non-pet owners. Aside from pet odors, pets may also stain carpet and scratch hardwood floors, doors and trim.

3. Kids: Kids are great especially when they are your own. However a child with a full glass of grape juice, muddy shoes, or permanent marker can quickly adversely affect a home's condition.

4. The Market: The real estate market goes up and down. It always has and it always will. A market downturn can easily reduce a home's value. The most a homeowner can do is to be aware of this and prepare accordingly.

The first three factors can easily be dealt with by smoking outside, training pets and keeping an eye on children. The last factor is completely out of a homeowner's control. To stay up-to-date on what your home in the Omaha area is worth, contact us at 402-943-9494.

These are four things that can really affect a home's value. The market is definitely something that cannot be controlled, and sometimes the timing on when someone needs to buy or sell can be a real detriment.
