Well,
It is the first blog entry. Having been an old school recruiter for so many years, I had always discounted the internet as being an effective tool for recruitment and networking. How wrong I have been and how ill I feel for the lost opportunities that have passed by.
My new blog resolution is to keep my profile updated and my thoughts fresh. So, enough of the standard propaganda, now on to the fun part.
I recruit in the mortgage industry and have done so for the last 7 years. Prior to the mortgage industry, it was healthcare and specifically physicians and hospital leaders. I must say that initially the mortgage industry was was a very exciting place to call home. Loan officers were going from place to place like the wind and we were there to orchestrate the entire thing. Signing bonuses were thrown around a drunken sailor in port on payday and no one seemed to mind.
The industry mellowed a bit and I learned that true mortgage professionals treated their business as a true practice as do the real estate professionals. They enter into partnerships with their clients and realize that the sale is just the end result of sound consultation over a period of time.
When the bottom started to drop out of the industry in the late third quarter of 2007, it became very apparent who the practitioners were. The practitioners were able to weather the storm that has assailed the industry and the "boy am I gonna' stick it to this refi" guy is now out and hopefully either selling cars or in jail.
We have not climbed out of the hole yet. There are still some tough times ahead but hopefully the worst is behind us. I have taken a lead from the mortgage professionals and have forged invaluable partnerships within the industry. We now partner with our clients thru their interview process and more fully understand what the long term is for them. Our relationships are long term and business practices sound.
If you would like to talk about your career track or simply have any questions about what we do as recruiters, give us a call. We are happy to chat with you. And the next time a recruiter reaches out to you about an opportunity, give him or her a minute. You never know when your worst enemy is going to turn into your best friend.
