Walnut Creek Upcoming Events

History draws us to the life around us.

This weekend you'll want to head to Heather Farm Park to participate in four days of fun, food and festivities.  It's a time for family, for which the Walnut Creek area is well known. Just one of many community events throughout the year.

Beginning September 18th until September 21st, there is something for everyone!  If it's not listed here, you'll find it there.! !Art on the main! Crab Feed! Twilight Parade! Fishing! Rides! Music! Picnics!! Did you know that the first "Walnut Festival" wasn't even for walnuts?  No, instead, it was a Grape Festival beginning in 1911!  Celebrating the vineyards that surround the area, it was a time of harvest and wine!  That is, until Prohibition.  The far reaching clutches of the illegality of alcohol caught everything in it's scope, and wine making was curtailed in the valley, giving way for a cash crop of, no longer vino, but walnuts.  Grape vines made way for walnut tree groves in the valley and the celebration continued with a Walnut Festival in 1936, continuing to this day.  With only a brief hiatus for WWII, the festival has continued to this day.

The Walnut Festival Association has continued to support the community as the subdivisions have replaced walnut groves.  Moving from the original festival sight of the center of town, to Civic Park, and now (in 1976) to Heather Farm, this association continues this festival tradition each year.
