You can never have a basement apartment in the Town of Babylon and the same goes for most towns across Long Island.

If you want living space in the basement you have to have egress windows installed so people have an escape route just in case there is a fire or other emergency. You also have to file a building permit to do this work.

How Do I Know If An Apartment is Legal in the Town of Babylon? The homeowner will have a current rental permit that was issued through the Town of Babylon. You look for the expiration date to make sure it is still current. The permit# is also on the top right hand corner in red.

What Will Happen To Me As A Tenant Living In A Basement Apartment? The Town of Babylon will give you 30 days notice to vacate. You are always better off renting a legal apartment to avoid a major headache.

If you have a legal apartment to rent in the town of babylon, call Jackie today and I'll have it rented quickly! 631-703-0201

Good information to share and a timely reminder for both tenants and homowners as we go through hurricane season.  Some insurance companies  not cover lost on below ground "living quarters".

Thank you Michele. Some companies will if you have a sump pump in the basement.
