Throwback Thursday: Love for Gardening Began as a Child

Bet in Grandparents Cotton FieldEvery once in a while, when I see a seed germinate, it’s as if I’m looking through a keyhole back into my childhood.  Some of my fondest of memories were created by spending time with my grandparents, maternal and paternal, they were both farmers and taught me to love gardening.

Back then, and still today, neutering and watching a plant grow is magical.

These photos were taken in the cottonfields of my Grandparents' South Carolina farm in the 50s.

Bette, we all like to play in the dirt as a child. And especially if our grand parents will let us.  Great memories for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Adorable photos Bette!

I spent all of my youth planting and harvesting crops.  Though I was happy to leave that part of life behind when I left for college, I do still keep most of my yard planted in garden crops.

Bette, I wonder how many of us still like to do what we loved as children?

We want a garden so badly... but we have herds of deer that will eat anything and everything.   As soon as I can, I will put up a chain link fence and cover it across the top (the deer can jump a 6 foot fence like it is nothing).   Once I create a "cage", I will plant some vegetables.

David, gardening is so rewarding in many ways, both mentally and physically and a wonderful way to bond with our "families. "
