The Purple Purse Challenge

While I applaud Yolanda for this blog post about the domestic violence situation, I understand that it is not only women who are affected, there are men and children in this equation, too.

Some men are abused by women, children can bear the brunt of emotional and physical abuse by either a parent or guardian of either sex, male and female.

The time to stop mental and physical abuse in anyone's home is NOW.  There has never been more awareness, and it can start with you.

If you know of a domestic situation, the time to step up and report it is NOW.  Perhaps, you think you are a busybody.  No, you are a concerned individual.  Take the time to commit to making a change for someone who may not be in a position to do so for themselves.  And, thank you for your courage.

Over the past couple of weeks we have seen domestic violence making big headlines because of the Ray Rice incident; the only good thing that has come out of this is bring domestic violence to the forefront. Domestic violence is a serious issue affecting 1 out of 4 women in their lifetime; that is a staggering statistic. Since I have been in my 20’s the first charity I donated was the Ft. Bend Women’s Shelter; helping victims of domestic abuse. I do not know why but that always been my soft spot. I think because I have been extremely lucky in my life and always been surrounded by a loving family. I realized that getting an education was very important; I remember my dad telling me that I needed to be able to support myself and my family so I would not have to put up with any man who did not treat me or my family well and I could walk away. This is the exact reason for the purple purse challenge; many victims of domestic abuse are also victims of financial abuse.

The Purple Purse Challenge is part of the Allstate Foundation; it is trying to assist empowering women in domestic violence situations to be financially independent and able to get away from their abuser. Many victims stay because they do not have the financial means to support themselves and their families. So, please go to http://purplepurse.com/    and give a donation and help women get financially independent from their abusers. Also, go to site and learn how to help victims of abuse or to help yourself if you are a victim.

Hi Ron, good of you to re-blog this. No one, male or female, young or old, should need to put up with abuse.

Good morning Ron ... we have a voice and need to speak out against abuse.  This also needs to include abuse towards animals.  So many live lives of daily abuse.

It's important as you point out that not only women are abused, but men and children. Long time ago, I saw a women beat up a man on a public street and she broke a store window in the process. You could tell they knew each other, as the man seemed like he was trying to reason with her. I'll never be able to get that image out of my mind.
