Sunflowers and Starfruits - the end of summer on Maui

sunflower in Haiku Maui HI 96708

We had a very hot and dry summer here in Haiku Maui, and it continues, despite the fact that it's now officially autumn.

Another bumper crop of sunflowers came and went, with much watering!

The starfruits were late this year but managed to produce a good crop anyway, with little water from the sky, and no irrigation at all.

Life is very good in Haiku Maui and I'm so glad we don't have to start preparing for winter now!

Are you ready to find a home or land in Haiku Maui? Let me be your guide!

Great photos, as always, Georgie. Makes me miss the star fruit trees I used to have. Sold the home and the new owners (idiots) cut down the star fruit trees. I just don't understand it when people replace fruit trees with ornamentals!

Beautiful!

My shoes and the hems of my pants are soaking wet after walking to and from the bus stop to work this morning! Sounds like I should consider relocating :)

That last photo is a papaya tree by the way, not the starfruit tree, which is more leafy and normal looking.

Aloha Georgie,

I miss my Star Fruit "carambola tree". After we sold our country house, the new owners cut it down along with the tangerine, ka'u orange, the pikake hedge and let the beautiful and highly productive white guava split in two and die. Instead of the fruit trees they put in a fence. I guess the continentals have their priorities, after about a year they put the house back on the market.

Peace-

I Just don't get that about cutting down the trees! Perhaps they don't realize what they are when they aren't covered with fruits.

Aloha Georgie,

I wish it was just ignorance but I gave the new owners a thorough tour and accounting of every fruit producing tree, flowering flora, and indigenous plant, disappointing to say the least.
