Auburn’s record against Louisiana Tech is 11–0–1, including a 38–23 win by the 1989 team, who will be honored before Saturday’s game. The lone tie in the series occurred in 1948, when Auburn opened the season with a win over Southern Miss, then tied La. Tech 13–13, and then lost the final eight games of the season.
The last meeting in the series was in 2009, when Chris Todd threw a 93-touchdown pass to Terrell Zachery, and the Tigers beat the Bulldogs 37–13.
Todd’s touchdown pass to Zachery set a new record for Auburn’s longest passing play. The previous record had been set by Jason Campbell and Silas Daniels on an 87-yard touchdown against La. Tech in 2004. The Todd-Zachery record was broken the following season by Cam Newton and Emory Blake, who connected for a 94-yard touchdown against Louisiana-Monroe.
Here’s one more piece of history for you. According to the game notes provided by Auburn Athletics, a Tiger win Saturday would be Auburn’s 300th win at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
