Our Tag-line--A Work In Progress

Our tag-line--a work in progressRichie Naggar came up with a very interesting contest this month, Scratch The Itch With Rich. It caught us in a time of transition for our business as we consider the merits of possibly starting our own brokerage and a potential name change.

When I got my license in early 2013, my wife Tammie White  and I created TW Realty Group as a team under the banner of a sizable local brokerage. We've tried a number of taglines playing off the "TW".

Recently I wrote a post about tag-lines titled You Don't Need Teeth To Eat This Meat. It was on the back of a food truck selling Bar-B-Q chicken and fish. It was suggested that in our Tennessee market maybe we should go with, You Don't Need Teeth To Use This Realtor! Hmmm, No...I don't think so. I'm not so sure of our target market with that one!

We briefly considered "TWo Heads Are Better Than One". Nope. We were concerned that prospective clients might be scared away by the visuals that might result from that little gem.

We thought of playing off our last name, "White", as in Buying and Selling Homes The White Way. While I like it in some ways because it begs the question,  "what's your way", you can see that it could be problematic for a number of other reasons. Again, hmmm.

All this being said, the truth is that our tag-line is still a work in progress. We feel our business name and tag-line need to reflect who we really are. I do like the tag-line "Bringing You Southern House-pitality". It fits our target market in Middle Tennessee very well. One of the things we noticed right away when we came to this part of the country was how most people we met were so incredibly friendly and courteous. It might be the one. We want to extend that sense of being approachable yet professional to our prospective clients, but is it too cheesy? Our daughter thinks so.

So...Rich (and the outstanding panel of Judges), sorry, but our tag-line is a work in progress.

Travis--I'm not sure of the words around it, but I like it too!

Debbie--Still thinking but I really appreciate the encouragement!

Tammie--Yep, great idea!

Cynthia--I'm so sorry I misunderstood your comment!

Sharon--I have a very long list of possibles that I've been adding to over the past month. Funny how inspiration comes to you when you're just waking up or going to sleep! I guess your subconscious is working on the problem!

A--You're right, it isn't. You want clever, not corny, if you know what I mean...

I love southern house-pitality!  Very clever and you could really play off of it with a variety of images.

Thought provoking assignment that doesnt manifest over night or in thirty days for this contest deadline.  Glad so many members are chiming in.  I also agree to ask an outside group to review your list and see what pops as well.  all the best

I like the two heads are better than one.  It's cute.  Especially if you are using that photo.

I like the 'white way' but then again, maybe some wouldn't get the 'stutter' if that is what it would be called. Coming from Chicago, there's a lot to pronouciation of a word that you can use - maybe not in TN?

Tom & Tammy I would definetly put it out to your A list and find out what words they use to describe you. You might be surprised - or not. Either way a tagline would pop up because our clients know us well and can describe us better than we can!  Good Luck!

Susan--You are absolutely right!

Eileen--We had already been working on this but got a little sidetracked. I have enjoyed the brainstorming on this!

Chris Ann--Thanks for your thoughts on this. Our daughter took that picture and we love it!

Michael--Yep, still wading through a few ideas. I think we will get additional thoughts from a focus group...

Lyn--Thanks, that one may not work for other reasons but it was the very first one we considered.

A.B.--We agree with you on that. If I was smarter I would have thought of that first! Lol.

Good morning Tom. The master will show up when the student is ready to listen. You will know when it is right, but let up know, when you have the tag line that is right for you.

Tom, I also like House-pitality. I'm sure you know that Huntsville is know as the Rocket City, so my officially, unofficial tag line is "The Rocket City Guy-Your Huntsville Real Estate Resource". It may still be a work in progress.

Tom, I have to respectfully disagree with your daughter.  I do not think it is cheesy. I feel it is fitting. Maybe "Your Southern Housepitality Realtors."

I know you will come up with the perfect everything.

You and Tammie are so darn adorable!

We just went through all that thought process.  Hundreds of names were considered, it begins to get a little overwhelming.  BTW Diane Aurit wrote several blog posts in 2009 or 2010 about how to open your own brokerage.  It is an excellent read.

T&T~"Dynomite"!! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Your post was fun, thought-provoking and really quite honest. Glad you didn't go with the meat and teeth thing. I have my tagline, have had it for years, thanks to my best friend who has been a very successful realtor long before I got in the game.

I just haven't had the time to get that darned post written for Rich.

I remember the challenges I went through coming up with my company name.  I wasnt't going to use my last name.  So I had to find a name that was available and I could get the domain name for.
