Harborside Place Announces Tiger's Restaurant Just 12 Days Before Opening

Let's face it there has been controversy about Jupiter's new Harborside Place. Just 12 days before Bravo Cucina Italiana opens their doors to welcome the very first paying customers inside her walls a big announcement was made. Jupiter resident Tiger Woods is opening his own restaurant and it's going to be big. Really, really big.

Let's start with Harborside Place which has been the talk of the town since it was announced back in 2008. As locals have watched the 360,000 square foot mixed use project rise from an amazing Intracoastal location that previously housed the Burt Reynolds museum there has been plenty of talk. And not all of it good. In fact, not much of it good. Concrete jungle has been one description. The 6 story parking garages facing US1 have been a major complaint and perhaps they could have been screened better in the design. Out of character with the area. The list goes on and on.

There is no doubt the development is a very high density project and out of character with what Jupiter has been. The city has thrown in over 5 million in tax credits for Harborside Place improvements, loaned the developer another $3.6 million for improvements and additions to it's riverwalk, lifted a city wide ban on paid parking, a $14 million dollar grant to build the seawall. The town even spent thousands of dollars sending their finance director to China where many investors came from and with it free passes to America. Yes the talk was loud. Ruining our area......

I have to admit I am not a fan at this point and think a whole bunch was packed on an 11 acre site. Density hasn't been what Jupiter is all about. But then I have only been here 8 years and as a newcomer part of the change many do not like. I think the elevation of the project from the street is harsh with seemingly millions of openings from two giant parking structures staring down on me as I drive past the site multiple times each day. But I am getting excited.

Rents are high. We already have one downtown named Abacoa that has not fared too well. High rents have been driving tenants out of City Place in downtown West Palm Beach. There is plenty of empty commercial space in the area. Yada.....yada.....yada. But I am getting exited to see how it all works. I will be among the first at Bravo Cucina Italiana even though I am not a huge fan of chain restaurants. I will be among the first at the new Wyndham Grand hotel when they open their doors in 2 weeks. And the Tiger Woods restaurant news is big. And it is a huge boost for Harborside Place just days before it opens.

The name is big; The Woods Jupiter; Sports and Dining Club. The location is big, sitting right next to the outdoor amphitheater and marina with lots of outdoor seating. Water sells. Tiger sells. And the location will sell. Who knows what kind of deal Tiger's people worked out for rent on the 5,900 square feet but if they didn't give up too much for Tiger to bring his marketing magic to Harborside Place then the rent will also be big. With the name and location the food probably doesn't have to be big. But it will help bring me back more than once. They are scrambling to open the restaurant as soon as possible but in sounds like anything prior to an April opening is a pipe dream. This Paradise Shark has his birthday on April 13th and if Tiger is ready we are bringing the party to his place.

Good luck Tiger and welcome to the restaurant world where we hope you shine......

Fins up.....

Sounds like this new restaurant is going to be something!  If I'm ever in the area I may try to stop by.
