Things you never knew about Social Media

In a world where social media is becoming the hottest tool for marketing your business, don't go into it blind.  There are so many things that are important when marketing yourself and your business to millions of people, SUCCESSFULLY :)

First, think about quality over quantity.  Posting daily is not important.  Posting quality information that will engage your audience is key.  You want people to READ what you post.  You want them to come back for more information.  You want to be a source of knowledge in your industry and you must be able to relate to your audience.

We all have a service or product and the easiest thing to do it "sell sell sell" that service or product but truly, its not what your selling but what you're saying that will make the biggest impact on your marketing efforts.

Here is an example.  I offer mortgage loans.  I could post about loan options, interest rates, credit scores, guidelines (which I do occasionally).  But most people don't necessarily care about those things.  When I add in humor, community related events, and off topic information, more people like, comment and share my posts.

Your social media is only as good as the amount of people you actually engage with.

Just some food for thought.

I use a few services and strategies for industry news and life news.

What separates who gets what is the segmenting of my lists.

Great Post, I am curious do you post on your personal profile or through a business page with rates?

I would also add comment. Comment on other peoples post and updates. This is quie helpful in developing a relationship online.

Nice comments Heather! I totally agree that you must connect with the people you are talking to, or you will turn into background noise. Thank you for sharing. Where do you like to get your humorous or off topic articles from? Something on-line?

I'm always looking for good sources of meaningful information to share with others. Thanks Heather!

Hitting your readership over the head constantly is not the way to do it successfully.

I agree with you Heather.  Social media should be social, not selling, not pounding people over the head and ramming things down their throat.

Thanks for all the GREAT comments!  As for where to get the subject matter, be creative.  Find things you like and find humorous.  Google should be your best friend.  Borrow and give credit.  I typically do seasonal, local community and then other things I personally find interesting (as a consumer, a mother and friend) and share those topics with my audience.

Ha! This is a great way to not only get a very valid point across but what a way to plug you're company and services. It's definitely worth a reblog and a follow. Folks like you are good for this platform.

I think being visible is just as imporant as being engaging.  Most people are not thinking about real estate or mortgages throughout their daily/weekly activities.  However if you are constantly visible to them, they will hopefully think of you when that time comes.

John - thanks for the comment!  Rob, thank you also for your comment.   Visibility is very important but engagement builds SEO and truly works the social media magic.  Visibility does not build SEO :) So while yes, visibility allows you to hope they will think of you, Engagement (likes, comments, shares, etc) will actually build SEO and redirect more people your way :)

Great post.  I agree.  Thank you for pointing this out to us.  I enjoy information about real estate; but, also, like community information and humor!

Great Post! Social Media is here to stay so we need to get on board and get engaged, jump in, and like, comment and post.  Consistency is the key to any marketing and when the time is right and one of our friends or followers has need of or knows someone looking for a Realtor, we should be TOP OF MIND!

Heather people do busines with people they like and trust.  Adding dimensions is critical so they see you have a life and what you enjoy talking about.

Great point, Heather, about posting quality over quantity. Too much quantity without quality and I'm thinking those people need to get a life.
