Most successful agents will have some great stories of what they do . People think we just show houses.

I had a listing where the sellers went on a vacation and just left a note for me at my office with the keys and requested that I water their plants and check on their house ,  pick up the mail and newspaper as they decided to go on vacation at the last minute and did not have time to call me . They left the note under the door.

I did not have a lockbox at the house.

I do not have a green thumb and did not know how often I should water the plants so I brought the plants to my office as we have many plants there . This way I did not have to go into the house daily to water the plants. 

I picked up the enwspaper on the way to the office and picked up the mail on the way back home.

 

Luckily it was just a short vacation.

Gita, that's allot of responsibility to take care of someones plants not to mention a client but good to read it was a short vacation. Hope you got their home sold. I've had to mow several lawns for my out of town clients, not fun but I do it instead of hiring someone.

Gita, you demonstrated what a great agent you are. That was a good idea to bring the plants to your office. That saved you extra trips to the house to water and I'm sure it made a good impression on your clients.

Gita, there are many times we are asked to do things out of the spectrum of our actual job duties!   I have made the bed, let the dog out for showings (and put him back in), check the mail.... all fun!

They must have known you would do those things for them. But I think that is very presumptous of them to leave a note and dump the responsibility on you. What if you were going out of town for a vacation?

That is definitely going above and beyond.  I've done weekly check in on vacant homes that we've had listed, but never watered plants.   I'd much rather have a family member or neighbor do that.
