Associates - What are they all about.

By
Real Estate Agent with Soleil Real Estate
I have been with AR for about 2 months and I am seeing associates added in my home.

  • What is the significance of these associates?
  • Why do people add themselves to associates to people they do not know?
  • Is there a proper etiquette when people sign up as an associate?
  • Do I need to sign up an associate with others?

I can't wait to read the rest of the comments. I'm kind of curious myself. It seems like a blog subscription and an associate might go hand in hand.

An Associate is someone that you either do business with or a referral source. We may not actually know someone on activerain, but through comments and blogs and sometimes e-mails and phone calls, we develop friendships and possible referral sources.

As for signing up an associate you can simply add who you would like, however they can block and delete you if they choose. I would choose only people you know for now and wait until you develop friendships with other agents/loan officers on here before adding them.

Mel:  As you get to know someone on Active Rain, you read their posts, they comment on your posts, and sometimes you gradually begin to like and respect their writings and opinions.  Sometimes when that happens, you can add them as an "associate."  It is kind of like it says... someone you would like to "associate" yourself with... you respect them, perhaps want to trade referras later on when either of you gets a referral prospect, and then refers that prospect to your "associated" agent in whatever city they are in.

It is just either you joining a group "gathered around" or associating with an agent you all feel "drawn to"... or them gathering around, respecting, or "associating" with you.  Perhaps maybe like a sort of "fan club."

When I add someone as an "associate"... I usually also write a short comment about them in the box provided, and then email them and let them know I have added them, and that I have subscribed to their blog.  I then invite them to visit my blog, read my posts, and if they like what they see, I suggest that they subscribe to my blog, and add themselves to my list of associates.  That is the best explanation I have come up with.  Hope it helps.
