Does each winter get longer and longer?  Do you want to golf and swim rather than shiver all winter?   Are you at a point in your life when you can leave home for a month or two or six each winter? Now may be the perfect time for you to consider purchasing a winter holiday oasis in beautiful Sun Lakes, Arizona.

Sun Lakes, Arizona, located in Phoenix' Southeast Valley, is consistently voted oneof the top 10 Active Adult communities in the US.  Sun Lakes is adjacent to Chandler (sharing the same post office, etc), so all the shopping, restaurants, medical care etc., are within a few minutes.  And Sun Lakes is within 25 minutes of Sky Harbor airport and close to many public golf courses. There is a large variety of homes, including manufactured homes, townhomes and single family residences, ranging in size from 800 square feet to 3500 square feet and in price from $85,000 (approx) to almost $800,000.

When some think Active Adult or retirement communities, they envision little old ladies with "house dresses" shuffling through the community, pushing their walkers.   While yes, there are some impaired residents, however the bulk of the residents of Sun Lakes are active, busy and vibrant.  Many are not retired yet, but wish they could be, so they would have  the time to be involved in more of the many offered activities.  Those who don't work say they are busier today than when they worked full-time.

So, what goes on behind those  walls and gates of Sun Lakes?  The community is divided into five sections and three HOA's, Sun Lakes Country Club, Cottonwood and Palo Verde, and Ironwood and Oakwood.   Each section has its own golf course, tennis courts, pools, club house and restaurant(s).  Walking paths wind through several of the communities and some have parks and pickle ball courts.  Additionally, Sun Lakes even has its own baseball field and there are bowling teams who play in nearby lanes.  So, for the physically active members of the community, it is easy to get out, enjoy the amazing weather and work on their game.

Many of the residents of Sun Lakes want to continue the community activities they did "back home."  They want to give back and do so through Neighbors Who Care (offer companionship visits, drive infirmed to appointments, help with shopping etc), War Veterans, Lions Club, Daughter of the American Revolution, and the Rotary Club. There is even a group that picks excess citrus off cooperating neighbors' trees for donation to a local food bank!

For those interested in learning a new skill or finally doing the things they have wanted to do, there is a myriad of clubs within the community --- watch for my article tomorrow that discusses some of them!

I am a Sun Lakes resident and love telling my future neighbors about the Sun Lakes lifestyle. I am also a Realtor® and would be happy to talk to your more about the community.  For more information call me, Eileen Shapiro, Sonoran Premier Properties, 480-370-6520 or Eileen@SonoranPremier.com.  To look at homes on MLS much like Realtors do, go to http://link.flexmls.com/12gkzur9olzv,12  .
