Your Heritage should not be focal. Staging in Burlington

By
Home Stager

When a Buyer leaves your home what should they remember ... you or the features of the house?

As a Stager, I deal with this frequently. Clients are in Living Mode and need to shift into Selling Mode.

The Buyer's focus should be on the features of the home not on the Seller's lifestyle. This is why we depersonalize in Staging.

They should remember the kitchen counters and back splash not the strong spice odor.

Buyers should remember the fireplace mantle in the Great Room not the African sculptures.

They should remember the great en suite bath not your religion.

The spacious rooms should come to mind not your love of strong colors.

When the Buyer sees your child's room they should think of how their child will enjoy it not how cute your kids are in the photos.

Keep the Buyer's focus on the product you are selling not you.

Don't be the spice house .... the pink house .... the African house ....

Be the house with the great fireplace ..... the house with the large master suite .... the house with the granite counters ....

It's so hard to convince sellers to take the personal out of their home.

Not something many sellers understand.  It needs to be explained without insulting or offending them.  Many agents don't want to risk it.  This is why having a staging consult is so helpful!

So true Sharon Tara! We can get the message across for the agent without putting them on the spot. It's part of our job ;).

Hi Janice-I tend to agree with you completely on this subject. So many times I have listened to buyers talking about the nic nacs and photos and hideous art and nada about the house!

Janice, this is such a hard mental shift for many sellers.  You have presented this in as gentle a way as possible.  We all need to remember your words of wisdom.

Thank you Sharon Parisi . It can be hard for sellers to see their home as a product. They really need to shift into selling mode.
