Ah yes... let the flogging begin......

Home Builder with ODaniel Homes

I was discussing a little advertising campaign and perhaps a new slogan or something, and a member of my organization suggested something along the line of "we build dreams" or "we build HOMES".  Now, normally I find it a little amusing when I see such things in print or on screen.  This time I was irritated.  It's such a cliche' thing to put out there.  The fact is we don't build homes and we don't build dreams.  Homes are something that are built by the families to whom we provide service.  Dreams or dream homes may be something brought to us to construct, but the fact is, we don't build dreams either.  The person having the dream builds the dream.  We just a fortunate enough to help carry them out or complete the idea.

Personally, I'm a little irritated with all this so called marketing razzle dazzle.  Let's just call it what it is.  Marketing concepts overused and abused.  I tend to be pretty straight out with it in very real "what you see is what you get" sense, so if you ever hear me say we build your dreams...... please give me a good flogging.  We will build you a great house, but enough of the whole "dreams" things.  It's tired and those of us with a good deal of sense, are tired of it.  We build great houses, and we build great friendships with our clients during and after construction, but we aren't arrogant enough to say we'll build your "home" too.  We'll take care of the structure, you take care of the family which truly makes the house a home.

Enough ranting on this one.  I'm sure something else will get my goat before the day's through that I can share with you also.  Greed perhaps.  I could go there, but I'm stepping off my soapbox for now.

Any original marketing concept, if great enough, will eventually be borrowed by everyone and overused, until, it too, becomes a cliche.

Welcome to ActiveRain, Clay! I agree with you that the cliches get way out of hand sometimes. Why not just a simple "We build great houses" and you could add a tagline like "You make them great homes."
