Is your sofa too fat for your space? Is her footprint creating a tight squeeze in your space. Let's put your sofa on a diet and slenderize her profile.
For this Westchester County interior decorator and designer, most sofas I encounter don't warrant the trouble or the expense. But for a recent Greenwich Connecticut client, reupholstering her costly 8-way-hand-tied piece was definitely the right way to go. This classic English rolled arm sofa was the perfect place to lie down and read a book, but her arms were bulky and over padded and the busy floral print fabric she was wearing was NOT her most flattering look! In this mid-century modern designed home, furnished as an English farmhouse, a stunning collection of antiques and artwork were being overwhelmed by this sofa's girth!
I knew exactly what this gal needed and selected a gorgeous woven linen and burlap stripe to dress her body. Her skirt was removed and a tight bottom in a complementary large scale check broke up the stripes but gave the sofa a unified and sophisticated look. Padding was removed from both the back of the sofa and the arms to slim her down and these vertical stripes made her long and lean.
With summer mill and upholsterer vacations, it took almost 4 months to see results but no diet is really quick. The worth was absolutely worth the wait and her new slender profile enabled me to begin the process of subtracting and then adding new pieces to the room to showcase the
homeowner's gorgeous collection, hidden from view for way too long.
The results were extraordinary and my client is just delighted. "I just want to sit on my new sofa all day and watch autumn unfold" is what she told me before I left her home yesterday. And believe me, watching winter, spring and summer from this stunning space will be just as wonderful.
