Blog not Book

Services for Real Estate Pros with The Tech Byte

typeI wrote a blog about keeping your emails short, and I'm finding myself learning another lesson I wanted to share.

See, I can attempt to teach you, in hopes that the lesson will sink into me more if I write it out. Selfish, yeah, I am.

When you sit to author your blog, don't feel like you have to write a book!
I catch myself thinking on the most simple subjects, then I get stuck because I feel I have to go into 10 Chapters of details.

You will lose your reader.  It's back to the same principle we talk about all the time.  Back to the Basics & Keep it Simple.

Blog writings aren't book deals.  (Hey, maybe they'll turn into that, or newspaper gigs like for Chris Griffith).

Keep your blog to the point.  If you want to write about lengthy topics - consider breaking it up into a series (don't do this often, you'll also lose people this way).

Go with it. Just write. Do you hear me Kim Wood? Just write.  Don't try to complicate things by over-studying and making things more difficult.  Just write.

Now..... GO!

Disclaimer: I'm not talking about blogging for points here and throwing up posts with one quote in them. Or the minimum word count for one of your ten posts per week.  This is directed towards the "real ones".

Kim, thank you for this.  I have worked on this issue for some time and know that I have a ways to go.  Thank you the reminder.

Kim, that's funny that you were referencing yourself in your post.  I was wondering who the "Kim Wood" was that was called out.  Now I see that it was you.

Poignant post Kim! I'm sure we've all been a victim of writing a "Book" instead of a blog!

Kim I think you are right.  I find myself moving over into "overkill" territory when I'm writing as well.  Sometimes I think if its something that is just too lengthy it may be best to be changed into a series of posts.  I agree when you say you will loose your reader.  I know I get lost in some I see as well.

Thanks for the shout!

My posts are 250-300 count words on average.  The paper articles are usually revamped blog posts with about 600-700 words.  You really have to be clear what is written in the paper, because there are no links to further info.

I am writing 5 posts minimum but sometimes 6 for Betty, my blog.  It's a bit of a struggle, sometimes to keep it short and sweet.

This is great information. I read once about a word counter. Try not to make your blog more than 500 words? I forget what website it was that counts your words. I am so guilty of lengthy blogs. You should some of my first blogs, so embarrassing. Hey, you gotta learn from your mistakes, right? :)
