FALL HOME MAINTENANCE TIPS
Fall is here! Are you ready? Here are some helpful tips for getting your home ready for fall/winter:
- CAULK – Caulking around doors and windows during the fall is an easy and inexpensive way to prepare your home to cooler weather. Time spent caulking now will save $$$ on heat bills later. And sealing up cracks will also cut down on the number of bugs and critters that try to take up residence inside your home.
- CLEAN OUT GUTTERS – Depending on how many trees you have around your home you will need to clean your gutters 1-3 times. If you have excessive amounts of leaves falling be sure to clean them out more often to prevent gutters from becoming blocked and water being redirected to undesirable places.
- INSPECT YOUR ROOF – Ice, wind, water and extreme temperatures can be brutal on a roof. It’s better to inspect your roof in the fall and make needed repairs than it will be during an ice storm in January.
- HVAC and FIREPLACE INSPECTION – It is a good idea to have your HVAC unit cleaned/inspected twice a year. Most licensed companies offer a spring clean and a fall checkup. This will help your unit run more efficiently – cutting down on unnecessary stress to your system and added energy expenses. Also, have your fireplace inspected and cleaned. If you have a gas fireplace, be sure that the gas lines are in good working order. If you have a wood burning fireplace, be sure to clean the chimney.
- REVERSE YOUR CEILING FANS – Change the direction of your ceiling fans so that they create an upward draft. This will help circulate heat from the ceiling downward.
