I work hard for my money

Real Estate Agent with The Cutting Edge, Realtors

As a real estate investor the last 9 years, I was of the mindset that real estate agents were grossly overpaid.  All they did was throw the listing on the MLS, put the sign up, maybe make some flyers & poof....a deal happened.  Holy Cow.  Was I wrong.  I have had my license for almost one year.  And what a year it has been.  A fairly decent Spring & Summer 2006 market.  Then the market in Colorado Springs came to a screeching halt.   Along with New Year's Day 2007 came a positive change in the market.  I took a listing on January 4 and CLOSED on February 5.

As part of my plan for 2007 I made a goal of developing systems for the steps involved in listing a house for sale.  The paper work alone can eat up close to 8 hours between contracts, CMA, disclosures, etc.  Then the real fun begins with the marketing.  Flyers, websites, meaningful data in the MLS, brochures, etc.   Staging advice. Countless hours are spent.  More time and money is spent on public & broker open houses.   And don't forget, blogging.  Unfortunately, I have been very lax in my commitment to AR and for that I apologize.

So, last night I did a listing presentation.  I am the blessed third Realtor!  Thank goodness #2 was limited service so my commission was not even an issue.  I figure if I spend as much time communicating with my sellers during the listing period as I did preparing to list, they should have a pretty good idea how hard I work for my money.

Before getting in to real estate I sold a house as a FSBO.  I had a dynamite location so was able to do it but during that period my whole life was consumed with selling that house.  After moving to Texas I got my real estate license and have been a Realtor for the last 10 years.  I totally agree with you about my previous perceptions about real estate, we definitely WORK for our commission.
