9 Tips For Staging Your Home To Sell

When buyers look at your home, you won't be there to point out all the great features and how awesome your home is. Your home will need to impress the buyers without you there. There are some things that can help... Below is a list of ways to make your home look its very best.

 

1 - First, the obvious... your home could be shown at any time, so make sure you clean your home and make your bed everyday.

 

2 - Remove all personal items from the home. Pack away all personal photos, take down refrigerator art, remove or hide all valuables, put away all prescription drugs, etc...

 

3 - Make any minor repairs that could distract buyers. Examples are: leaky faucets, burned out light bulbs, squeaky hinges on doors, and broken blinds. Anything that is small and easy to fix, do it!

5 - Make sure to leave blinds open so rooms are well lit with natural light. Also, leave on a few lamps for the cozy feel. 

 

6 - Get rid of clutter!! Not only do you need to "edit" down for your move, but the more you can remove from closets and other storage areas, the better. You want the buyer to feel like there is plenty of storage. Also, remove items that clutter your counters and dressers. Less is more!

8 - Update your front door and locks. Paint the door if needed or if not, clean it well. Then replace the lock set and make sure that the key fits ALL doors.. This makes showing the home much easier for the agent.

 

9 - Last, but not least, don't forget yard maintenance. When a buyer first drives by, this is their first impression. Make sure to keep the lawn mowed and landscaping weeded. Also clean the windows and porches to make sure all cobwebs are gone! Plant some season flowers to add color and you have a home that buyers will want to go inside!!

This is a good list! One minor thing I may add (kind of goes with repairs or keeping blinds/windows open) is to address torn window screens.  It's something that is very often overlooked by sellers.  I advise them to discard them (in the south we rarely open windows) as it brings in more light that way, and if not - they must at least be repaired and stored away until closing.
