Beautiful piece of history at the center of GMC campus

It's a rare occassion that I get to just wander around downtown Milledgeville for any length of time.  Yesterday Donald and I enjoyed a morning out at the Deep Roots Festival and we did just that, enjoy some time strolling around.  And of course we had to hit the GMC campus.

Georgia Military College has been in Milledgeville since 1879. However, before that this beautiful building was the 4th State Capitol of Georgia in the 1800s for a period of 60 years.

Aloha Tammy,

I love Gothic architecture. When I saw the creneling I thought that is rather severe and castle like for a church but then I saw that it was a military college and it made perfect sense.

Hi Tammy,  When I saw your photo, I knew I had seen it before.  When I was doing research for the Stay and See Georgia Boardgame, I learned about the history of Milledgeville.

There are so many cool little towns to explore around Georgia. Ray and I have got to make a point to get out once, maybe twice a month on a day trip and check these things out. Seriously.

Kimo- it was a government building before it was a Military College

Larry- it's a beauty.  And a unique part of our local history

Thom- Donald and I need to do more of that too.  We used to with the kinds, not so much in the past few years.

That's a stately looking building, Tammy!

When I was in your state last month, I spent some time in Savannah.  While my grandson and I were riding the trolley around town, we came upon this scene in one of the numerous town square parks.  It appeared to be part of a prom night. The guys were all dressed in cadet uniforms, and looked really sharp.

Locally at the Military College it's not a "prom" but a Cotillion Myrl Jeffcoat  .  Love that moss in the trees and the mom's with cameras.  And seriously you and Eliazabeth have now both been to Georgia and NOT let me know.  tsk tsk.

Tammy - I thought about you when I was in Georgia.  It was a rapid paced 9 day trip, with little free time.  My grandson goes to Georgia Tech, I suspect I will be back there one day again.
