My mistake - Associations

By
Real Estate Agent with Soleil Real Estate

Previous post

I have been with AR for about 2 months and I am seeing associates added in my home.

  • What is the significance of these associates?
  • Why do people add themselves to associates to people they do not know?
  • Is there a proper etiquette when people sign up as an associate?
  • Do I need to sign up an associate with others?
I made a mistake I was meaning "associations"

Hi Mel, from one newbie to another, welcome to Active Rain. I posted something similar about 10 days ago and I received approximately 4 responses to my question. This is what I understand about "associations".

1) There is no proper etiquette when it comes to joining as an associate.

2) The significance of associating is that if you like some ones blogs and you've maybe  established a relationship with that person, you both can associate with each other. This way if some one from Spokane WA was coming to NH, they could find out about me if they were subscibing to your blog or just reading your blogs and clicked onto your associatie list. You could also point someone to me by having them check me out on your associate list etc.. I can do the same from my end.

3) You don't have to sign up with someone who has associated with you, I've been told to check their blogs out etc and to try and get to know the person before associating.

4) Lastly, I have no clue as to why someone would associate with another person they don't know.

Hope this helps you.

JMO, I add Associates that I found to write a good profile and who write good blogs, or if we blog alot...I have over 70 now.  What I do with these associates, I write comments like, "Very astute agent in Spokane, WA" these comments are what the general public can see about you. If I have a customer moving to Spokane, I'll refer them to you.  When you add associates to you and write nice things about them in the "comments" portion, most of the time they will return the favor. Set's up quite a nice referral network.

You might want to add links to yourself. like "home's in Spokane, WA", your website, etc. then link that to your website if you have one.  That way everytime someone is looking for "home's in Spokane, WA" it send's them to your website...

:-)

Mel,  I don't add people to my associate list unless I have had some contact or know them.  But I could see adding an associate and treating it as a my favorite section without having to subscribe to the blog.

I've been trying to figure this one out as well...being anothe ractive rain newbie myself.  But I think from what I've gathered, that you add the people that you like and think have something great to say.

It is also a great way to "bookmark" people that you might be able to work with in other markets or that you might want to come back to and network with but don't have the time to right on the spot.  There is no big mystery.  It's just another way to help you make better and more efficient use of ACTIVE RAIN.

Well this is a great question with lots of good comments of information. I always kind of went with the flow on it. Except of course when it comes to people I actually know.

I have been on The Rain since last September 07, by all mean's read about these people who you add as Associates.  You can also create groups of Associates such as "refer to Associates from Florida", etc. The people I have as Associates are fabulous...as you will see by continuing to build relationships by blogging on AR...
