A New Day Has Come - What will you choose to do with it

There's an old story of a woman who sold fish all her life and knew nothing else. One fine summer day, she was invited to the queen's palace to help prepare a royal festival.  When she was shown to her room, she found it filled with fragrant flowers. "How disgusting," she complained. "Please take me back and let me sleep near my pile of fish."

Now why would she choose the stench of her fish over the sweet fragrance of flowers? It is simply because of habit and familiarity. It's the old choice of picking... The Devil We Know...

In the same way, we often hold on to our angers and sorrows, our bitterness and mediocrity because they are all we know.... They offer us familiarity in an uncertain world and a self-image we can hold on to and feel comfortable - if not happy - with...

But the miracle of life is that as soon as we realize that we can choose self-worth, approval and appreciation over pain and fear, a powerful force begins to work on us....

Over time, we can all learn to acknowledge and nurture the essential goodness and strength that each one of us was born with... Over time we can all learn to love the smell of the flowers and walk away from the smell of the stinky fish...

So my question for you is what will you choose this New Day.... Will you choose to surround yourself with the beauty that surrounds you or will you choose to surround yourself with smelly fish... The wonderful thing about each New Day that we are blessed with... is that we alone get to choose what it is that we will do with it ... As for me I'm choosing the flowers... hope you join me...

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Richard and Beth, I choose to rejoice over this day and be glad in it.  It's often so easy to slip back into a negative and ungrateful attitiude.  So my prayer will be to always be thankful going forward in life.

Beth - people need to let go of their hurts grudges and failures and focus on the wonderful things in their life.  That was a very inspirational story.

Great story, I have heard it but it is always a good reminder.  We do have choices about how we can go forward.  Thank you both.

I just heard this recently but someone said the reason today is called "the present" is because God gave us today.

A fantastic reminder that we CHOOSE or attitude each day. Each day is a new experience and we get to decide how much we enjoy it.
