Yesterday I read a post here on ActiveRain where a member was looking for an agent to send a referral. My first thought was... well why didn't they just check the area on on the membership? I read further and they had, but the problem was that no one in that area was "active" here at ActiveRain. It got me to thinking about what folks would think about the other agents in my area and made me to look.
A couple of them are actually no longer in the business. Others are not blogging in years but still in the business. How would you know? Would you take the time to go to their website? Call them? email them? Do they have a current email connected to their profile? Do they still work for the company they have listed?
A phone conversation with a friend in the business last week and they said to me.... "you really need to change your twitter photo. Ooops, it wasn't even THE last profile photo I used here, it was two profile photos ago. So I'm also guilty of not keeping everything I need to keep current ... current.
So today I made a list. I'm going to pick a day quarterly to "check and update" I expect it will take a hour or more to do everything on the list...
- facebook businesss pages (all of them)
- Chamber site
- Pinterest (thanks for the comments that made me go back and edit and add the last two)
I'll be checking to make sure I have a post that isn't more than 3 months old, a current photo and that all my links and numbers are working. I don't want to be over looked for a referral because someone wonders "is she still in real estate?" and I don't think you do either.
My challenge to you as a member is to reach out to someone you subscribe to who hasn't been here in a while to blog and remind them that they should write at least one blog a quarter so folks won't wonder if they are "still in the business". Even if they have "moved on" to other blogging platforms or their own site you can gently remind them that a quick blog here a few times a year can keep them getting businesss. Don't be that town like the one I read about yesterday where NO ONE from there was blogging on AR and none of them got the referral. Don't just set up a profile and run and don't blog and vanish for 3 years and expect it to do you one bit of good.
