Blog Blah!

By
Real Estate Agent with Irongate Realtors
Blog, blog, blog, blah, blah, blah, blah....OK is this blogging really worth it? All of the time spent blogging is taking away from production. I can't help to wonder if some of our mega agents are laughing at all of the time we are spending on blogging. Does this really pay off? Are we crazy? Are we expanding our butts and not our business production. What type of blogging is beneficial? Any type of blogging? Would we be better off to  forget blogging ever existed? Are blogging companies making more money than we are? Does google and yahoo and zillow and and and and... whoever really pick up on our blogs??? Where is all this blogging going? Can you imagine 1000 years from now when they study our civilization what they will think when they read some of our blogs............

Sure does help! I get lot's of referral's from my wonderful friend's here on AR.  I check it out in the morning, then I blog at night on my lap top while watching TV...not much during the day.  I have met fabulous people on here and have learned more from reading great posts on here by experienced (seasoned) agent's than any text book! Read Lenn Harley and then you'll know why! There are also many other's! I have over 80 Association's on here as well for my referral network!

NOt sure who are are talking to Julie, but I blog to create friendships (if you are talking to me).  I get referrals from the Associations that I create or another agent creates by adding me to their Association's list here.  I also get referrals from Localism.   I have also bonded with quite a few mortgage broker's on here who have not only helped me get mortgage's for my buyer's when they were difficult, but have also gotten referral's from them as well...Make friends on AR...you'll see.

Hi Julie, you know, if I took time away from production I might agree with you.  I also blog late at night, while I sit on the computer and upload photos and work on my websites.  I love AR for the networking, and I think it pays.  I prefer this to some less effective forms of marketing; however, if I were taking time (good, valuable day time that I could be talking to human beings) away from my business, it might not be a good use of time.  As it is, its a great use of time.  Best of luck to you!

Your blog can be a great way to show your expertise through stories, articles, anecdotes... it also lets potential clients to get to know you before you've met. Your recent post about moving with pets is great content - quality info, real estate related and with a personal touch from experience. I'm sure your clients (and future ones) will enjoy this and find it beneficial.

Julie,

When you read someone else's blog and if you like it and you read their profile and like it...above their picture it says...Add as an associate...If I have time during the day tomorrow, I'll call and I'll walk you through it.  It's an Associate...an Associate is another agent or the like that you connect to...it's someone to refer other customer's to...do you understand the word?

Julie,

I just read your profile and it seem's to me that you have many more certification's than most agent's and should understand what is going on here...are you looking for more comment's or what?

Julie, I assume you are in the central time zone.  You are not taking away from production time at 11:41 pm.  So, keep it up.  You will get clients from your blogging.

Thanks for all of the responses, Karen, thanks for the lesson on Associates. For the rest of you thanks for the tips. Honestly, I have been told to blog. I don't really understand but I do not want to be left behind in this tech world we are experiencing. I figured if I just jumped in I would learn. And I have learned a few things from your comments. I bet there are a lot of people like me who think they should blog but don't know why yet.

Jimmy it is 1:28 am EST so yes it is not taking away from my prospecting. One last thought..you all seem very passionate about blogging. Where would I learn more about blogging in active-rain instead of posting blogs for no reason.

Julie,

I am a broker with 28 years experience and last year my firm did more transaction sides (with only 10 agents) than any other single office in our mls (some offices have 65 agents) ......I attribute a lot of that activity to Active Rain....my website was basically non-productive until I joined Active Rain and now it is very productive.....

Good morning Julie,

Like with anything else, nothing works 100%. However I find the time spent here on Rain provides an outlet, information source, learning opportunity through experience sharing, etc., as well as an opportunity to expose ourselves to professionals associated with our profession. Yes, for me blogging "Works" It allows me to accomplish all of the above and more.

Have a great day!

Julie - I won't give up blogging.  It has done wonders for me.  As long as you schedule it and DON'T do it during prime time marketing/prospecting times you'll be just fine!
